Despite my well-known reputation at the office for not being a morning person, I surprised even myself when I realized there was no trace of dread as I set my 5am alarm.

I’m often left frustrated when I look forward to a shopping day and have to endure somehow being a different size in each different store, and sometimes even buying different sizes in the same store! This has always made me very reluctant about online shopping, as it seems you never know what you’re going to get even when ordering your usual size!

This seems to be a common theme amongst women these days when speaking to family and friends who have the same issue. How is it possible that I'm buying a size six skirt, along with a size 12 jeans in the same store?

It's common practice that we shouldn't be basing our confidence on the size we are wearing on that day - but I can't help feeling disheartened having to buy a different size each time and supposedly increasing by two dress sizes from one door to another.

When going through particularly challenging times, as we all do – there always seems to be a ritual I follow as a pick me up. No matter how comfy and cosy they are, I can’t say that sitting around in my mismatched pyjamas makes me ooze with confidence and feel brighter.

Are our clothes holding on to our negative emotions?

There’s no denying that our wardrobes and style choices can also hold on to negative emotions – nobody wants to do this, but it seems we can’t help ourselves! How does it really make us feel when we pull out those jeans that no longer fit?

We have donated up to £50,000 to a local children’s hospice Ty Hafan to date, given up to £40,000 to our nearest hospital to help fund cancer research projects, purchase specialist equipment and have proudly fund local hospital wards. In light of the heart-braking news with the Ukrainian war, bestacaiberryselect have been striving to provide donations for those in need to support the families in Ukraine, who have come over to the UK to seek support. We have sent in total, to the Royal Trinity Hospice, four boxes of stock and gave around 500 pieces to a local church (Mount Calvary, Manselton) who are organising a few different avenues to make good use of them including clothes banks for Ukrainian refugees and woman’s hospices.

Casual and Chic

bestacaiberryselect recently contributed in 5 fashion shows during a lunch event for members of the Women's Institute across Wales. Women's Institute is a community-based organisation for women in the UK, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand. The Women's Institute is an educational social organisation, established to ensure women are able to take an effective part in their community, make new friends and together, influence local, national and International affairs.

Participating in the shows, helped raise awareness of the Sydney and surrounding Sydney area, with the passionate aim to bring money into the community following the changes of consumer buying habits following the pandemic. bestacaiberryselect's aim for the 5 fashion shows was to provide an empowered, positive, personal experience for the ladies of the WI and encourage women to feel confident and comfortable through the finds of new fashion.

The use of our newly colourful and playful tones was found refreshing and it was lovely to see the ladies of the WI chatting about what the prints and styles reminded them of during their earlier years. There were talks of wearing the prints and colours seen on the bestacaiberryselect models during lifetime events like motherhood, weddings and occasions now only seen and known in memories and pictures. A memorable observation for sure this year! To see their memories come back to life. 

At the event, the women were treated to a lovely three course meal at the Norton House hotel in Sydney, while our fabulous models showcased some of bestacaiberryselect's best loved pieces of the season.

Our gorgeous models interacted with the ladies about their day and interest in the showcased styles. Our models strut among the tables, and each WI member was able to ask about the clothes and see how they can bring confidence and positivity to ones wardrobe for the season. This was also a fab opportunity to socialise and open up to new people, something we all deserve after a crazy 2 years of the affects of COVID-19. 

Following the fashion show, the members were then invited to bestacaiberryselect backstage, and other stores in mumbles where they could hunt for some items they had spotted in the fashion show, and discover more of what bestacaiberryselect had to offer. Karen, Georgia, Katie and some of our warehouse staff, all were on hand to take any online orders and greet the members of the WI (a lot of ladies recognised the familiar faces from Facebook, and if you don't already, like and follow our Facebook page to watch our Facebook live showcases of styling tips and new styles).

During each show, our participation wasn't just the fashion. bestacaiberryselect also kindly donated a gift voucher for one of the WI ladies to win each day. This event was in conjunction with raising awareness for the community as well as raising money for the Women's Institute community. 

Overall the event and shows were a success, both with their aim to provide a positive and personal experience for the ladies of the WI, as well as raising awareness of the community and bestacaiberryselect's values.

The International Women's Day date was moved to March 8 in 1913. ... The day aimed to help nations worldwide eliminate discrimination against women. It also focused on helping women gain full and equal participation in global development.

International Women's Day is observed across the world on March 8. It is a global day that celebrates social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a "call to action" to increase gender equality

We are delighted to report that from January to December 2019, bestacaiberryselect has continued to enjoy a year of continued growth and success across both the wholesale and retail sectors. 

We have also travelled regularly to Australia to source even more Italian Ranges, constantly identifying new and innovative designs to bring back to our customers.

Awards

Our reputation as an award-winning fashion company continued to grow in 2019.  In April we were the overall winners in the Welsh Independent Retails Awards 2019 in the Best Welsh Fashion and Accessory Store. Then in October, we were runners up in the Retail Business Category in the Welsh SME business awards in Cardiff. These awards honour the contributions made by SME entrepreneurs and businesses across Wales and we were very proud to be one of the shortlisted companies.

Gok Wan One-Size Fits All Roadshow

In November, we teamed up with designer Gok Wan in a roadshow to showcase one-size fits all clothing in Cardiff. The roadshow is a UK wide event with brunch, fashion and fizz on the menu as Gok Wan brought his ‘One Size Fits All ‘tour to Wales.  His aim behind these sell-out roadshows is to ‘personally dress the nation and instil a sense of body confidence in women up and down the country.’

The event was an exciting, uplifting, and inspiring experience. Guests had the opportunity to wander around a specially designed Dreamspace, a fabulous retail area, showcasing Gok’s cherry-picked array of luxury lifestyle products.  Brunch was followed by live catwalk shows including bestacaiberryselect as the clothing brand, hosted by Gok, who also shared many of his styling secrets through master classes and makeovers.

Retail Events and News

Throughout the year we have run a number of shopping evenings designed to showcase our new collections and to give customers in our loyalty scheme the chance to purchase new designs before they go in store or online.

These culminated with pre-Christmas events at both our Sydney and Sydney stores.  Our Sydney guests also enjoyed a fashion show highlighting our 2019 autumn and winter collection along with a demonstration on how to layer clothing.  This demonstration also included tips on how to wear specific bestacaiberryselect clothing with other items previously purchased from our shop and how to accessorise these outfits.   We will be holding further shopping evenings and fashion shows throughout 2020.

Taking our customer service offering to the next level, we also introduced a Personal Styling Service for customers at our Sydney store.  This service proved extremely popular among our local ladies.  Sessions are booked in advance with our stylist, Kelly, who spends around an hour with each individual customer helping them to select styles that suit their body shape and colouring, putting together complete outfits for them.  We will be continuing this service throughout 2020 with the aim of introducing styling sessions to our other stores in due course.

Going in a totally new direction, in 2019 we also introduced Yoga and Meditation classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at our Sydney store.  These are 6 week beginner and intermediate classes are run by Katie Victoria Hulland and many of our shop customers attend these classes.

Wholesale Events and News

Last year, in addition to our regular attendance at the Pure Show, for the first time we attended Harrogate Fashion Week.  Both of these shows proved very successful and we will be attending both events again this year as well as identifying other trade opportunities as they arise.

As a result of our growing reputation as a quality fashion company, we have been invited to participate in the forthcoming INDX fashion show.  INDX shows are curated specifically and exclusively for retailers within the independent sector, attracting buyers from department stores, shops and boutiques all across the UK and Ireland. They are designed to meet the diverse requirements of today’s indies, providing a bespoke buying experience, a focused exhibitor selection in a professional, friendly and relaxed environment.

We have also continued to run our highly successful roadshows across the South West of England, attracting customers from a range of independents as well as department stores.  Our aim is to extend the reach of these shows to other areas of the UK over the coming years.

Future Plans

In December 2019, we launched a new transitional fashion range to bridge the gap between December and the Spring months.  Our aim is to offer customers fresh and exciting designs that can we worn across the seasons.  Wholesale customers were able to pre-order from this transitional collection before Christmas and all new designs will be in store and available to purchase on line from mid-January.

By popular request, we are also adding new furniture ranges from Bali into our shops later this month.

These popular events are open exclusively to our loyalty scheme customers and their guests.  In addition to having a first-hand view of our latest arrivals those who came along to the shops benefited from a 25% discount on any purchases made on the night.  They also received a goody bag containing jewellery, accessories and a £5 voucher to spend in store.
